Web literature in a Secondary Classroom

As the our modern world is every changing with new technology and their application, one thing remains the same: communication's importance to soceity and survival.  As a beginning secondary education dual English/History educator and being a late bloomer into this profession, I hope to...

Welcome to our website

I am glad to see you here at my website. I believe this will be an exciting semester for you as well as this teacher, because I am learning a great deal myself about literature and teaching.

Welcome to some new experiences which will develop your studies in The English Literature.  This website has been created to help you through this course and my class. I make you a promise that if you apply yourself and come to class every day with an attitude of learning and fun, that you will not just walk away from this course with a couple of memories of literature, but that you will leave my class with a deeper appreciation for literature in general, and it's power to affect your life as well as others' lives around you.

An American popular historian and author, Barbara Tuchman 1912-1989, (one of Mrs. Whitesides favorites), once wrot e :

Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. They are engines of change, windows on the world, lighthouses erected in the sea of time.

Indeed increasing our knowledge of words and communication are the main objective of this website and the course you are currently enrolled in.  The second objective is to remember that learning is suppose to be engaging and worth something.  Through many ways of delivering literature to you, it is my hope that you may be able obtain this second objective as well as the first.

Visitor's notice

You are free to browse all open pages in this website for your benefit; however, it is important that you pay close attention to the pages and links that are assigned as the calendar of events unfolds for the semester.

Reminder:   I expect you to treat this website and those whom you blog with or about with courtesy and respect.   Specifically, foul language, gossiping, or bullying will not be tolerated.  Policy dictates that it may be cause for suspension or dismissal from this school.  Remember that what is written and passed in this website is retrievable, even if it is erased.  (Just ask my ex-husband how I figured out how to retrieve anything off of a computer.)

Disclosure:  I offer you a means to do extra homework, introduce yourself to topics, study for quizzes or tests, and a safe place where you can examine reading, writing, and dramatic Literature.  It is present for your enjoyment, but no one can make you learn.  You must desire it in the end for yourself.

2nd Disclosure: If you think I am perfect at reading, writing, and speaking; or that anyone can be, then move your brains back into your head.  I disclose that I have a lot to learn still. I am a teacher because I am older and wiser (sometimes), but I still have not arrived to that place were I make little or no mistakes (especially in grammar).  Keep this in mind as you move through this website.
